Central Retail Boosts Connection and Distribution for Early-Ripening Tan Yen Lychees

On May 27, the People's Committee of Tan Yen District (Bac Giang) hosted a conference to promote the consumption of early-ripening lychees. At the event, Central Retail signed a memorandum of understanding for the 2024 harvest, officially marking the start of distributing Tan Yen lychees through their retail supply chain.

Jose Mestre, Commercial Director of Fresh Food at Central Retail, stated that the company has worked closely with Bac Giang cooperatives for months to guide them on the necessary procedures and quality standards for supermarket entry. Beyond traditional channels, Central Retail is utilizing e-commerce platforms and the GO!, Big C, and Tops Market apps to maximize sales.

Currently, GO! and Tops Market supermarkets nationwide have set up prime displays to showcase early-season lychees. Furthermore, the retailer is enhancing the product's value by offering lychee-based items such as lychee sponge cake, peach-lychee tea, and lotus seed-lychee tea.

In addition to the domestic market, Central Retail continues to facilitate the export of Bac Giang lychees to Thailand via their retail network there. During the 'Fruit Festival' on June 30, lychees will be a flagship product. Despite adverse weather leading to a 50% drop in yield and a 40% increase in prices, Central Retail aims to distribute approximately 300 tons of lychees this season.
