Culinary Trend: Crocs-shaped cakes take Hanoi by storm

No longer just a witty retort, the Crocs-shaped cake has recently become a social media sensation. This trend has piqued public curiosity, driving crowds to experience the taste of this uniquely crafted snack firsthand.

First appearing in Ho Chi Minh City, these Crocs cakes impress with their striking resemblance to the footwear, meticulously molded in custom metal frames. Reports indicate the cakes feature a crispy, golden exterior paired with a warm, stretchy cheese filling. Each cake is even served with small decorative stickers.

Nguyen Thi Van, owner of a shop on Hang Vai Street (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi), mentioned she introduced this trend to Hanoi after discovering it in Japan. Within just over a month, the shop has seen remarkable demand, selling between 300 and 1,500 cakes daily.

In terms of composition, the recipe mirrors popular grilled cheese cakes, with the unique appeal lying in the shoe-shaped mold. Beyond the classic flavor, customers can choose from eight varieties including corn, meat floss, red bean, almond, and salted egg, priced between 30,000 and 35,000 VND. Prior to its popularity in Vietnam, this snack made waves at the lattencos store in Shinjuku, Japan, in September 2024, where it was sold for approximately 500 yen per piece.
