Food Safety Inspection Results: Over 5,700 Facilities Found in Violation with Fines Exceeding 22.4 Billion VND
During the peak inspection period in April-May 2026, authorities sanctioned over 5,700 food safety violations, totaling more than 22.4 billion VND in fines.

From April 15 to May 15, 2026, interdisciplinary inspection teams nationwide conducted an extensive audit of food safety compliance. According to the latest report from the Vietnam Food Administration (VFA) under the Ministry of Health, authorities inspected over 62,000 production and business facilities, identifying 5,749 violations and imposing administrative fines totaling more than 22.4 billion VND.

A total of 3,392 inspection teams were deployed from provincial to communal levels, focusing on collective kitchens, catering services, street food, as well as wholesale markets and supermarkets. Beyond financial penalties, authorities suspended the operations of 29 facilities, revoked the food safety certificates of 7 establishments, and transferred 17 cases to investigative agencies for further legal proceedings.

In addition to these actions, approximately 15 tons of goods with unknown origins, including frozen food, sausages, and confectionery, were seized. A total of 110 establishments were forced to destroy products valued at over 3.35 billion VND due to quality non-compliance or expiration.

The Vietnam Food Administration stated that common violations involve poor facility hygiene, misleading food advertising, and the trade of products with unknown origins. Laboratory test results indicated a failure rate of 1.37%, while rapid field tests recorded a non-compliance rate of 7.6%.

Addressing the challenges of monitoring small-scale and mobile food businesses, the VFA has proposed stricter controls on imported goods and online food trade. Furthermore, the agency emphasized the urgent need to strengthen the capacity, human resources, and testing equipment for grassroots-level units to ensure timely detection and warnings against food safety risks.
